About this card

Starbucks runs more than 38,000 stores worldwide and its card is the most-gifted retail product on the planet. It pays for the whole menu — beverages, food, packaged coffee, ready-to-drink bottles and in-store merchandise — plus mobile order-and-pay and app delivery in most markets. Registered to an account it also earns Stars in Starbucks Rewards, generally at the higher rate reserved for card and app payments.

Its geography is unusual and worth understanding, because it is more generous than a normal region-locked card. A US-issued card works at company-operated stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Mexico, converting at the exchange rate on the day of the transaction with no conversion fee. One card genuinely travels across six markets.

The limit is licensee-operated markets, which run their own separate Card programmes and apps: China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Germany among them. A US card will not load or pay there. If the person drinking the coffee is in one of those countries, this is the wrong product — and we would rather say so on the product page than let you find out at the till.

Starbucks charges no activation, service, dormancy or inactivity fees and the cards carry no expiration date. We never ask for a Starbucks login, a passport or any government ID — an email address is the only thing we need to deliver the card number and security code.

What you get

  • A claim code, delivered by email
  • A private order page (14-day access)
  • Re-issue or full refund if the code fails
  • No Starbucks login or ID required

How to redeem

Same flow on every Starbucks store — only the URL changes per region.

  1. Open the Starbucks appCardsAdd card (or sign in at starbucks.com → Card management).
  2. Enter the card number and security code from your delivery email.
  3. Pay in store by scanning the app — or hand over the card number at the register.
  4. Register the card to earn Stars on every purchase.

Works at company-operated stores in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and Mexico. Not accepted in licensee markets such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand or Germany.

Asked & answered

Specifics for Starbucks cards. For general crypto-payment questions, see the site FAQ.

Does a US Starbucks Card work outside the United States?

Yes — in company-operated markets. A US-issued card pays at Starbucks stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Mexico, converting at the exchange rate on the day of the transaction with no conversion fee. This makes it the most travel-friendly card in our food category.

Where does it NOT work?

In licensee-operated markets, which run their own separate Starbucks Card programmes and apps. That includes China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Germany, among others. A US card will not load or pay in those countries no matter how much balance it holds. If you are buying for someone in one of those markets, this card is the wrong product.

Does the balance expire?

No. Starbucks charges no activation, service, dormancy or inactivity fees, and the cards carry no expiration date — the value never expires. A card bought today is worth the same amount in five years.

How do I use the code?

Add it to your Starbucks account or app: open the Starbucks app → Cards → Add card (or sign in at starbucks.com → Card management) and enter the card number and security code from your delivery email. From then on you pay by scanning the app in store. You can also use the number directly at the register in most markets.

Does it earn Stars in Starbucks Rewards?

Yes — paying with a registered Starbucks Card is the standard way to earn Stars, and in most markets it earns at the higher rate reserved for card and app payments rather than cash or an external card. Register the card in the app to make sure the Stars land.

What can I buy with it?

Everything on the menu — beverages, food, and packaged goods including whole-bean coffee, ready-to-drink bottles and merchandise sold in store. In most markets it also works for mobile order-and-pay and for delivery ordered through the Starbucks app.

Can I give it to someone else?

Yes, until it is registered. The card number and security code are a bearer instrument — forward the delivery email and the recipient adds it to their own account. Once registered to an account the balance is tied to that account.

Why buy a Starbucks Card with crypto?

It funds daily spending with no bank card and no KYC — we ask only for an email address to deliver the code. It is also a practical way to load a Starbucks balance if you do not hold a payment card accepted in the card's home market.
