About this card
Outdoorsy is the marketplace that rents recreational vehicles from the people who own them: motorhomes, campervans, truck campers and towable trailers listed by individual owners rather than by a rental fleet, across the United States. Started in Austin in 2015, it works the way a short-let platform works — you browse someone's actual vehicle, message them about pickup, and the platform sits in the middle handling money, insurance and support. Every booking carries rental insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance, underwritten through the company's own insurance arm, Roamly.
A gift balance is applied at the outdoorsy.com checkout against the booking total, and that total is more than the sticker rate: it is the nightly or weekly rate, the Outdoorsy service fee, the protection package you select, and the add-ons that make a road trip work — mileage bundles, generator hours, cleaning, and delivery of the vehicle to a campsite if the owner offers it. All of that is covered by the balance, which is the honest good news about this card.
The honest caution is the security deposit. Every listing carries a refundable deposit, and it is taken as a hold on a payment card around the start of the rental rather than drawn from your balance — so even with a fully funded booking, a card still has to be on file before you drive away. Budget for that separately, because a gift card alone will not get the keys handed over.
The other thing to read before you commit money is the cancellation policy, which each owner chooses for their own listing from Outdoorsy's tiers and which therefore varies from generous to strict on otherwise identical vehicles. A booking is also not final until the owner accepts it, unless the listing is set to instant booking. Where a refund is due, it goes back to the original payment source — that is, onto the balance, not into coin. Buying the balance itself takes no identity check: a delivery email, the coin you already hold, and the code lands in about eleven minutes.
