About this card

Holland America Line has been carrying passengers since 1873, when it sailed as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company out of Rotterdam, and it still runs the fleet that name suggests: around 11 mid-size ships — the Pinnacle class (Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam), the Signature and Vista classes, Volendam and Zaandam — rather than the floating resorts of the mass-market lines. It has sailed Alaska for more than 75 years, and the itinerary book runs from Norwegian fjords and the Panama Canal to the Grand World Voyage, a single sailing of roughly 124 days.

The card can go to two different places, and the difference is worth understanding before you buy. Applied to the booking, the value comes off the cruise fare and behaves like a payment against what you owe — which means it has to be on the booking before final payment, generally due about 75 days out on ordinary sailings and considerably earlier on Grand Voyages. Applied to the shipboard account, it becomes spending money for the voyage itself.

On board, that account is where everything lands: crew appreciation, drinks outside your package, speciality dining at Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind or Canaletto, the spa, the shops, Wi-Fi, and any shore excursion you book once you have sailed. If you already hold a Have It All fare with drinks and excursions bundled in, the card is better spent on the fare; if you booked a bare cruise-only rate, putting it on the folio is what makes the voyage feel paid for.

Two limits to name before you pay. First, Holland America is a Carnival Corporation brand sitting beside Princess, Cunard, Seabourn, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa, AIDA and P&O — each line runs its own reservations system and its own card programme, so this card does not pay a Princess or a Cunard booking. Second, the booking has to be held by the line: hollandamerica.com, the reservations desk, or a travel advisor booking into the line's system. A cruise prepaid through an online travel agency leaves no line-held fare to reduce. Buying the card takes no account and no identity check — a delivery email, the coin you hold, and the code arrives in about eleven minutes.

Asked & answered

Specifics for Holland America Line cards. For general crypto-payment questions, see the site FAQ.

Does it pay for the cruise fare or for on-board spending?

Either — but you choose which when you hand the number over. Applied to the booking, the value comes off the fare and has to be there before final payment. Applied to the shipboard account, it becomes on-board credit for the voyage. You cannot move value from the fare to the folio once it has been applied, so decide before you call.

What exactly does on-board credit cover on a Holland America ship?

Everything the ship itself bills to your stateroom folio: crew appreciation, drinks outside any package you hold, speciality dining at Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Canaletto or Rudi's Sel de Mer, the spa and salon, the shops, internet plans, and shore excursions booked once you are aboard. It does not pay for anything bought ashore from a third party outside the ship's own booking system.

Will it work on Princess, Cunard or Carnival Cruise Line?

No. All of those lines sit under Carnival Corporation with Holland America, but each brand runs a separate reservations system and a separate gift-card programme, and the cards do not cross between them. Buy the card that matches the ship you are actually sailing — a Holland America card is only good on a Holland America booking or folio.

When does the value have to be on the booking?

Before final payment, which Holland America generally sets around 75 days before sailing for ordinary voyages and considerably earlier for Grand and World Voyages, which can ask for the balance months out. After the fare is paid in full there is nothing left for the card to reduce — at that point the only useful destination is the shipboard account.

Can I use it if my cruise came from an online travel agency?

Only for on-board credit at Guest Services, and even that depends on how the agency structured the booking. Fare payments need a booking held by Holland America — made on hollandamerica.com, through the reservations desk, or by a travel advisor booking into the line's system. A cruise prepaid to an agency is settled with that agency, so the line has no fare balance left to discount.

Does it cover taxes, fees, port expenses and crew appreciation?

Taxes, fees and port expenses are quoted on the booking alongside the fare and are settled under the same payment schedule, so card value applied to the booking works against that total. Crew appreciation is charged daily to the shipboard account during the voyage, which means card value has to be sitting on the folio — not on the fare — for it to absorb that line.

Can I combine several cards, or use one across two cruises?

You can stack as many cards as you like on a single booking or folio, and any shortfall is settled with another payment method. Splitting one card across two separate cruises is a different matter: once value is applied to a booking or a shipboard account it belongs to that voyage, so buy the denominations that match how you intend to divide the money.

Which coins can I pay with, and how big can the card be?

Eight — Bitcoin, Monero, Ethereum, Solana, USDT on TRC-20 or ERC-20, Litecoin and TRON. Faces run from the $50 floor up to $1,000, with custom amounts to $2,000 for people putting a real dent in a Grand Voyage fare. No account, no KYC and no identity document — we take a delivery email and nothing else.
