About this card
Celebrity Cruises is the premium brand of Royal Caribbean Group, sailing roughly 15 ships to some 300 destinations across all seven continents — the Edge Series (Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent) with their cantilevered Magic Carpet and Infinite Veranda staterooms, the Solstice and Millennium classes, and the expedition ship Celebrity Flora in the Galapagos. A certificate here is money against the cruise fare itself, which on a premium line is the large number on the invoice rather than the incidental one.
The mechanic that decides how you buy: each certificate is applied in full. There is no partial redemption and no change given, so the technique is to stack several denominations that add up to a chunk of the fare rather than to buy one certificate larger than the fare. Multiple certificates can sit on the same booking. Value comes off the cruise fare; taxes, fees and port expenses, prepaid gratuities and add-on packages post to that same booking and are settled under the normal payment schedule.
Timing matters more than on a retail card. Celebrity takes a deposit when the booking opens and the balance at final payment — generally 75 to 90 days before sailing, earlier on long or holiday voyages — so the certificate has to be on the booking before that date to reduce what you owe. And note what it is not: this is not on-board credit. It never appears on your shipboard account and cannot settle a bar tab, a spa bill or an excursion booked once you are aboard; the line sells on-board credit as a separate gift.
Celebrity sits in Royal Caribbean Group next to Royal Caribbean International and Silversea, but each brand runs its own reservations system and its own certificate programme — a Celebrity certificate does not pay for a Royal Caribbean or a Silversea sailing, and the reverse is equally true. It also has to go on a booking held by Celebrity: the line's own site, its reservations desk, or a travel advisor booking into Celebrity's system. A cruise bought and prepaid through an online travel agency leaves no Celebrity-held fare for a certificate to reduce. Buying the certificate takes no account and no identity check — a delivery email, the coin you already hold, and the code lands in about eleven minutes.
