About this card
Barnes & Noble traces its name to 1886 and is the last national bookstore chain in the United States — roughly 600 stores, and growing again since Elliott took it private in 2019 and put James Daunt in charge of buying store by store rather than from head office. The shelves are no longer only books: B&N is the largest manga seller in the country, and the same floor carries vinyl, board games, puzzles, journals, calendars, toys and the café counter that keeps people in the building for two hours.
A gift card is credit against all of that, and it crosses the format line that trips most bookstore cards up: applied to a barnesandnoble.com account, the balance also pays for NOOK ebooks, magazines and newspapers, so the same money buys the hardcover on the table or the download on the train. In store it settles at the register like cash — including at the café, which runs on B&N's own till rather than a coffee chain's, so a B&N card works there and a Starbucks card does not.
Bought here it needs no B&N account, no card on file and no identity check. You give us a delivery email, pay in the coin you already hold, and the claim code arrives in about eleven minutes once the payment confirms on chain. The account only matters at redemption, and creating one costs an email address and a password.
Two limits are worth naming before you pay. This is a US-dollar card for the US chain. And it is not tender at the campus bookstores that carry the Barnes & Noble name — Barnes & Noble Education was spun off in 2015 and is a separate public company with its own stores, its own site and its own cards. The paid B&N Premium Membership sits outside the balance too, because it auto-renews and needs a card on file to charge next year; the free Rewards tier costs nothing.
