Taco Bell opened in Downey, California in 1962 and now runs about 8,000 restaurants in the United States plus roughly a thousand more abroad, franchised almost end to end. It belongs to Yum! The menu is why the card gets spent rather than forgotten: the Crunchwrap Supreme, Doritos Locos Tacos, the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, Chalupa Supreme, Nachos BellGrande, the Cantina Chicken line, breakfast Crunchwraps, the value box, and Mountain Dew Baja Blast — the fountain drink the chain effectively made its own.

The card is stored value in US dollars, drawn down over as many visits as it takes, with no expiration date and no dormancy, service or inactivity fee. What separates it from most quick-service cards is reach: it is accepted not only at the front counter and the drive-thru but at the tacobell.com and Taco Bell app checkout, so it pays for order-ahead, in-store pickup and Taco Bell's own delivery — and app-exclusive deals and Taco Bell Rewards points apply to what you buy with it exactly as they would to a bank card.

Buying it here needs no Taco Bell account, no card on file and no identity check. You give us a delivery email, pay in whichever of the eight coins you already hold, and the code lands in about eleven minutes. That is also the workable way to hand a US fast-food card to somebody when you are nowhere near a US billing address yourself.

Two limits are worth stating before you pay. This is a Taco Bell card, not a Yum! Brands card — KFC, Pizza Hut and The Habit Burger & Grill each issue their own and none of them cross, including at co-branded KFC/Taco Bell or Pizza Hut/Taco Bell restaurants where the till belongs to whichever operator runs it. And an order placed inside DoorDash, Uber Eats or Grubhub is a purchase from the delivery company, which takes only its own payment methods, so the card cannot be used there; delivery booked in the Taco Bell app is fine, because the money goes to Taco Bell. As always, "participating" quietly excludes some non-traditional sites — airport, stadium, campus and travel-plaza counters run by contract caterers.
