PlayStation Plus runs in three tiers and each one is a superset of the last. Essential is the tier that unlocks online multiplayer in paid PS5 and PS4 games, hands out a set of games every month that stay playable for as long as the membership runs, adds cloud saves and opens the members-only store discounts. Extra keeps all of that and adds the Game Catalog, several hundred PS5 and PS4 titles you download and play in full. Premium adds the Classics Catalog of PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 titles, cloud streaming, and time-limited game trials of new releases.

These are membership codes, not wallet credit, so the amount you choose is the term: $79.99 buys twelve months of Essential, $134.99 twelve months of Extra, $159.99 twelve months of Premium at the US price. Redeem one while a membership is already running and the days are appended to the end of the current term rather than replacing it. Redeem a tier that differs from the one on the account and Sony converts the value proportionally — an Essential year dropped onto an Extra membership becomes a shorter run of Extra, not a downgrade.

Which membership does each amount buy?

The face value is the term. $79.99 is twelve months of Essential, $134.99 twelve months of Extra, and $159.99 twelve months of Premium — the standing US prices for those tiers. Nothing lands in the PSN wallet: the code is consumed and the membership clock starts.

I already have PlayStation Plus. Does this extend it or replace it?

It extends it. Days from a redeemed code are added to the end of the current term, so nothing already paid for is lost. If the code is for a different tier than the account is running, Sony converts the value proportionally rather than downgrading you — a year of Essential redeemed on an Extra membership becomes a shorter stretch of Extra at the same cash value.

My region calls the top tier Deluxe, not Premium. What is the difference?

Deluxe is the top tier in markets where Sony does not run cloud streaming. It carries the Game Catalog, the Classics Catalog of PS1, PS2 and PSP titles and the time-limited game trials, but not the streaming of PS3 and Game Catalog titles that Premium adds — and it is priced lower to match. This US variant is a Premium market, so the codes fund Premium.

Does redeeming this switch on auto-renewal or put a card on the account?

No. A prepaid membership code adds time and nothing else — it does not attach a payment method and it does not enable auto-renewal by itself. If the account already had auto-renewal running against a saved card, that setting is untouched and keeps its own schedule; you can turn it off under Payment and Subscriptions before or after redeeming.

What happens to the monthly games and Game Catalog titles when the membership ends?

They lock, but they are not deleted. Monthly Essential games and anything from the Extra or Premium catalogues stay in your library and become playable again the moment a membership covers them once more. Save data is untouched. Games you bought outright with money are unaffected — those stay playable with no membership at all.

My PSN account is not registered in the United States. Can I still use this?

No, and there is no workaround. A PS Plus voucher only redeems on an account registered in the same country, and a PSN account's country is set at creation with no way to change it later — no settings page, no support exception. Either redeem on a US account or pick the country your existing account was made in.

Do I need PlayStation Plus to play free-to-play games?

No. Free-to-play titles such as Fortnite, Warzone, Apex Legends and Destiny 2 allow online play on PS5 and PS4 without a membership. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer in paid games, and it is what unlocks the monthly games, the cloud saves, the catalogues and the members-only store discounts.
