HBO Max is the name to use again: Warner Bros. Discovery stripped the HBO from it in 2023, ran it as plain Max for two years, and put it back in 2025. Same subscription, same account, and old max.com links now forward to hbomax.com. What sits behind it is the HBO series library — The Sopranos, The Wire, Succession, The Last of Us — alongside Max Originals, the DC slate, the Warner Bros. film vault and the live sports carried on the ad-free tiers.

Three US tiers share that catalogue. Basic with Ads is $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year: 1080p, two streams, no offline downloads. Standard is $18.49 a month or $184.99 a year — ad-free, two streams, 30 downloads. Premium is $22.99 a month or $229.99 a year and is the only tier with 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos, four simultaneous streams and 100 downloads. The card does not choose for you: it is credit, and each tier eats it at its own rate.

That makes the arithmetic easy to check before you buy. A $100 card is roughly nine months of Basic with Ads, about five and a half months of Standard, or four and a half of Premium. Buying it here needs no HBO Max account, no card on file and no identity check — a delivery email, a payment in whichever of the eight coins you hold, and the code arrives in about eleven minutes. It is also a workable way to fund a US household's subscription from outside the country, which HBO Max's own checkout will not do without US payment details.

The constraint that decides whether the code is usable at all is who sends the bill. Credit can only be applied to a subscription HBO Max bills directly. Is it called Max or HBO Max now?

HBO Max. Warner Bros. Discovery dropped the HBO from the name in 2023, ran the service as plain Max, then restored it in 2025. It is one continuous subscription with one account — nothing was migrated and nothing was lost — and old max.com addresses forward to hbomax.com, including the redemption page.

Which plan does the credit pay for, and how long does it last?

Any of the three, at that plan's rate. Basic with Ads is $10.99 a month, Standard $18.49 and Premium $22.99, so a $100 card is roughly nine months, five and a half months, or four and a half months respectively. Nothing on the card locks a tier — switch plans and the balance simply drains at the new rate.

I am billed through Apple, Roku, Amazon or my cable provider. Can I use it?

Not against that subscription. Those platforms own the billing relationship, so HBO Max cannot apply gift-card credit to an invoice it does not issue. Cancel with the platform, let the paid period run out, then re-subscribe directly at hbomax.com and redeem the code there. Your profiles and watch history stay on the account.

What happens when the balance runs out?

The subscription continues at the then-current rate on whatever payment method is on file. If the account has no card saved — which is the normal case when someone starts from a gift card — there is nothing to charge and the subscription lapses instead, so the balance running out is a stop rather than a surprise bill.

Does the balance expire?

HBO Max publishes no shorter term for US gift-card balance, and US federal law puts a five-year floor under store gift cards, so a card bought today is not going to quietly die next year. No dormancy, service or inactivity fee is deducted from the balance either — what you load is what the subscription eventually spends.

Does it cover the 4K Premium tier and its downloads?
